Audi says “Compact SUV,” we say “Lunar Rover”

Audi has made it known that it wants to offer 60 models by 2020, but the question of how it plans to get there from its current 49 has been kept behind the curtain.

The German automaker inched one step closer to its goal this week by unveiling one of its planned vehicles, the Q1.

Right off the bat you can see that this is a smaller car/SUV crossover, just like Porsche’s new Macan. What the Macan does not have, however, are tires that would look quite at home on a tank or industrialized space vehicle. In fact, looking at the photos, I’m not even sure they’re not meant to be read as, “Audi on Mars,” or some such.

All kidding aside, this looks like quite a vehicle. Its 2016 global release date doesn’t cover when it will arrive in the U.S., or if you’ll have to venture to outer space to get it, but in the meantime, the fellows over at Top Gear have placed it under their cheeky eye for examination.
